Bruce McKinnon Memorial Endowment
Bruce McKinnon (1974-2007) was a musician of high achievement, bedrock integrity and limitless generosity. He attended The Banff Centre in 2001 and 2002 as a participant in the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music and pursued his passions for jazz and education as a pianist-composer-teacher in New York City.
Bruce was inspired by beauty and moved to action by injustice. He nurtured the essence of others through his intelligence, imagination, humour and ethics. Diagnosed with a rare cancer, he continued to live his life to the full with purpose and courage, inspiring his family, colleagues, students and friends throughout the world.
To ensure his fine spirit and legacy live on, Bruce’s family and friends have created the Bruce McKinnon Memorial Endowment for the jazz program at Banff, to provide opportunities for musicians to create and learn in the mountain setting he loved.
“Bruce was an inspired composer and brilliant pianist. Bruce's
inventiveness inspired everyone in the workshop. He will be missed.”
