Raoul Trujillo, Contributor

Raoul Trujillo is a mixed-blood Apache, Mexican, and French Canadian from New Mexico. He trained with the Toronto Dance Theatre and worked as a principal dancer and soloist with the Alwin Nikolais Dance Theatre in New York. He was an initial co-director and choreographer for the American Indian Dance Theatre. Significant works include Maid of the Mist (1990) and The Shaman’s Journey (1988), as well as numerous shorter pieces. Trujillo has pioneered contemporary Native dance in Canada and the United States. Trujillo also has an extensive acting career in theatre, television, and film. He was host of an excellent eight-part PBS documentary entitled Dancing. Recently, he was part of the star-studded Native cast in Son of Hiawatha.
