Born in Northern Ontario, Armand Garnet Ruffo is now the director of the Centre for Aboriginal Education, Research and Culture, and a lecturer in the English Department, Carleton University. A participant in the Writing Studio (1989 Adele Wiseman), Ruffo is strongly influenced by his Ojibway heritage. His first collection of poetry, Opening In the Sky (Theytus Books 1994), and the creative biography GREY OWL: The Mystery of Archie Belaney (Coteau Books 1997) reflect his abiding interest in the complexities of aboriginal identity.
