Music & Sound Alumni
Since 1936, over 6,000 artists have taken part in music and audio programs at The Banff Centre. Music & Sound alumni are found on concert stages
and in professional positions, both nationally and internationally.
When asked to describe their experience, many say it was truly
inspirational, life changing, and an essential experience!
Here’s what some of our alumni have said about their time at The Banff Centre:
"In eight extraordinary summers at The Banff Centre … my life was enriched musically, artistically, and personally beyond measure. At The Banff Centre I discovered the joy and the discipline of music. The impact lives with me every day."
Pianist, Jon Kimura Parker
"Few places on the planet combine streams of exceptional
musicians, professional studio engineers, and passionate students.
At Banff, many things are possible: music making in first-class
facilities, creation and research innovation in a charged
environment, and reflection given time and inspiring space."
Chris Chafe, Director, Center for Computer Research in Music and
Acoustics,
Stanford University
"Banff is the place where, over a stretch of 20 years, I made
my most significant breakthroughs as a violinist and as an artist.
The place, the facility, the setting, the faculty, and the
participants all had a hand in influencing me. I’ve attended many
arts institutions over the years – Banff was always where I felt
safest and at the same time stimulated."
Violinist, Erika Raum
"I am very grateful for all the opportunities which have
resulted from my experiences and contacts made at The Banff Centre."
Composer and Pianist, Heather Schmidt
"I have come away inspired, focused, and well-educated.
Everything from teaching to food and accommodation is world class.
It is one of the best places in the arts world for training,
working, and learning."
Violinist, Kerry DuWors
