With over fifty films to his name, Leo Dickinson is unquestionably one of the world’s leading adventure filmmakers. Dickinson is the 2003 winner of the International Alliance for Mountain Film Lifetime Achievement Award for mountain film making. He has won the Grand Prize at the Banff Mountain Film Festival on three separate occasions with his films "Dudh Kosi – Relentless River of Everest" (1978), "The Cerro Torre Enigma" (1981) and "Eiger" (1984). In 1991, he organized and filmed the four-man team that made the first hot-air balloon flight over the world’s highest mountain. This outstanding achievement was recorded in his acclaimed film "Ballooning Over Everest". Dickinson was the featured guest in this year’s Retro Reels program.

Passe-moi les jumelles: Le Cervin fait son cinéma (The Matterhorn – Movie Star)

(Switzerland, 2001, 31’)
Director: Luca De Luigi
Producers: Benoît Aymon, Claude Delieutraz
The death of four climbers in 1865 during the first ascent of the Matterhorn marked the beginning of a legend that, perhaps, would not exist without cinema. This film features exceptional archival footage including segments from a film made in 1901, a copy of which was found in a cupboard. The Matterhorn and cinema make a true love story.
