Geneviève Letarte
Geneviève Letarte is a Montreal writer, translator and performance artist. The author of four novels, amongst them Souvent la nuit tu te réveilles (L’Hexagone, 2002) and Les Vertiges Molino (Leméac, 1996), she has also published a book of poetry entitled Tout bas très fort (Écrits des Forges, 2004). A member of the editorial board of the Montreal literary magazine l'Inconvénient, where she regularly contributes articles and essays, she has also collaborated with various literary magazines in Québec, France and the United States. She has produced three recordings of her songs : Âmes soûles (2007), Chansons d’un jour (2000) and Vous seriez un ange (1990), found on the Ambiances Magnétiques label. She is known for her performances combining poetry, music and song, such as Poèmes en pyjama (Festival Voix d’Amériques, 2011), Dans la voix de quelqu’un (Studio de la Place des arts, Montreal, 2004) and Le Mystère du bois Blanc (Théâtre La Chapelle, Montreal, 2000). Geneviève Letarte has been nominated twice for the Governor General’s Awards for her translations of Mavis Gallant’s works : Le Week-end en Bourgogne (Les Allusifs, 2010) and Rencontres fortuites (Les Allusifs, 2009). She has been welcomed as a writer in residency at Yaddo, the Banff Center and the Quebec Studio in Paris. She has participated in many cultural events in Quebec, Canada, France, Mexico and Cuba.
Geneviève Letarte pratique l’écriture sous diverses formes. Elle est l’auteur de quatre romans, notamment Souvent la nuit tu te réveilles (l’Hexagone, 2002) et Les Vertiges Molino (Leméac, 2004), ainsi que d’un recueil de poésie intitulé Tout bas très fort (Écrits des Forges, 2004). Connue pour ses performances combinant texte, voix et musique, elle a réalisé trois disques de chansons, dont le plus récent est Âmes soûles (Ambiances magnétiques, 2007). En solo ou accompagnée de musiciens, elle a participé à de nombreux événements artistiques au Québec, au Canada, en France, au Mexique et à Cuba. Elle est également traductrice et fait partie du comité de rédaction de la revue littéraire l’Inconvénient.
