The quartets are arriving in Banff

The members of Quatuor Zaïde arrived on the Banff Airporter on Thursday, August 26, after a 20-hour trip from France. The Amaryllis Quartet arrived on Friday, and on Saturday afternoon most members of the Asasello, Cecilia, Noga, and Peresson quartets arrived.

BISQC executive director Barry Shiffman welcomes musicians on Saturday afternoon.

Yet to arrive among this group of quartets are the cellists from the Peresson and Asasello quartets. Cellos require their own seats on the airplane, and the flight from Montreal on which these musicians arrived had seats for only two non-human occupants.

Recalling his years of travel with the St. Lawrence String Quartet, BISQC executive director Barry Shiffman said, “We hope the winners of this year’s BISCQ are so successful they won’t have to fly commercially.” Few musicians — Yo-yo Ma and Pinchas Zukerman came to mind — travel by private jet.

Members of the Afiara, Atrium, and Hausmann quartets are scheduled to arrive later Saturday or Sunday.
