This symposium will bring together leading international curators, critics and artists to ask: Is curating a profession? Does curating have a code of conduct? What does it mean to be a professional and when is it necessary to become unprofessional?

About BICI
The Banff International Curatorial Institute (BICI) programs encompass a range of public activities including symposia, think-tanks, exhibitions, and publications. BICI also provides research opportunities from residencies to workshops, and includes training opportunities.
BICI’s programs and activities serve the communities of curators, artists, researchers, writers, critics, philosophers, and other cultural producers at various stages of their careers. It offers ongoing professional development and complements degree granting curatorial programs by providing a venue to meet, explore, and continue research.
BICI is dedicated to advancing curatorial practice with an emphasis on contemporary art and culture.
Visiting Curators
BICI hosts curators affiliated with a variety of institutions as well as non-affiliated curators to give public lectures as well as meet and exchange with critics, curators, art historians, and visual artists in residencies.
